BONKERS Contemporary is an artist-led collective initiated in 2016 to create opportunities for emerging, early-career artists. BONKERS CONTEMPORARY is the brainchild of Freddie Thomas. Having left Art College and finding the ArtWorld quite overwhelming and exclusive, she saw the need for something Brave, Bonkers and Brilliant. She decided to start #bonkers! These shows are all about the artists allowing them to be experimental, and providing a great platform for the Artists to be themselves. The first BONKERS exhibition took part during the Edinburgh Fringe 2016, and involved alumni from Masters of Contemporary Art Practise. Following this success, BONKERS Contemporary is now an annual event, embracing the importance of making and bashing out ideas and creating a supportive space - physical or mental - for emerging artists. Importantly, BONKERS invites everyone to experience what is possible in a space where artists have freedom to push against, re-think and re-imagine new art unswayed by sales, art establishment popularity or commercial trends. In 2017, BONKERS Contemporary will announce an open call inviting artists to submit proposals for the 2nd edition of BONKERS at the Biscuit Factory in Edinburgh. More artists. More space. More ambitious art. |
